X-Men: Dark Phoenix is currently filming, and there were recent rumblings about Jessica Chastain joining the film as Lilandra, Empress of the Shi’ar empire. Hmmm, we now have news directly from the actress that she’s not going to play the Empress at all. She posted an Instagram photo of a rainbow on the set of the film and shared her excitement with her fans about her first day on the set. The image was previously posted by director Simon Kinberg where he said he finished the first-day shoot with Chastain.
Chastain revealed more information by commenting to fans, and that included who she’s not playing in the movie. Yeah, it was definitely a surprise for those looking forward to her as Lilandra.
“Hey folks, want a scoop? I’m not playing Lilandra….”
It was previously reported by THR that Chastain was in talks to play the Shi-ar Empire ruler. Now it looks like that’s not going to happen. Does that mean we won’t be seeing the Shi-ar empire at all? Or maybe Chastain is just trying to define her role? What if she’s messing with fans, similar to Paul Rudd saying he’s not playing Ant-Man and Jason Momoa saying he’s not playing Aquaman. I guess we’ll find out once the movie comes out.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix hits theaters on November 2, 2018.
